Dream Glow

I sincerely apologize for the excessive use of the word ‘glow’ in this interpretive piece. (◡﹏◡✿) There was so much to link back to that one word, especially given this track is an OST for BTS World and the connection it holds with their own experiences.

When dreams are synthesized, the part often put into perspective is the glow they hold. Dream Glow is an interesting juxtaposed metaphorical take on the indefinite blackout preceding the spark at the end of the journey.

The captivating shine they hold, bewitch us to believe in nothing but the fruit of the endeavors, and the beauty in them. Propelled by our deepest desires, but also heavily influenced by the milk and honey of those we aspire to become, we set goals and dream of brighter tomorrows. Our life appears to be the dark skies of the night before and we chase the dawn coming forth. But what’s often forgotten are the early hours of the day in between both, when the belief that things shall change and the melancholy of the never-ending darkness meet.

We are inspired and we aspire. But even when we look up to another, we overlook the part where they fought the demons of fate to be set free. We look up to the rising sun and look forward to the glow it brings, yet we tend to ignore the struggle of facing it head-on. Dream Glow refers to the glow that we seek to attain a greater place in this world. But also acknowledges the challenges of facing the ‘spotlight’ and rising above them.

It is not to say that one should fear the ride and give up on the journey. Rather this is the most realistic form of encouragement offered when challenges are discussed as a reminder of not everything is just what it seems. The nice boys and their hidden scratches represent the mesmerizing nature of our ambitions but also the under-discussed emotional context of vulnerability as a fighter. Perhaps the word ‘struggle’ that’s often used to encapsulate it all does little justice to acknowledge the severity of harsh conditions coming in the way. The fear of stagnation, the indefinite nature of the intermediate stage, the dread of it all turning out to be a mirage, and the unsettling feeling of being trapped in a quagmire of fate…everything represents the glow just as much as the ultimate shine it holds.

The lyrics are an eye-opening yet inspiring medium that puts together the parts we choose not to face and yet encourages us to believe none of them makes our dreams unattainable. In another form, not only are we made to recognize the blackout but also put aside the concerns of the blinding future. When we braid together dreams the end becomes such a major focal point that we tend to ignore the sparks on the way. Dream Glow also acts as a reminder of living in the beauty of the present. Perhaps that way we realize that when it seems like the struggle never really ends, it’s because there will always be something better and some things will work out while others won’t. We need to understand that the glow we seek actually lies within us. It’s us who has to overcome challenges and strive for our dreams but not be blinded by the ‘glow’ and focus our entire energy on just that ending point. There is so much to acknowledge and cherish on the way.

The true fruit of a dreamer’s journey is the belief in themselves to grow and shine, and that holds much more importance than the materialized glow of just one goal. When we put into perspective a single achievement, we work towards that goal but then what? We inherently lose even when we win because everything we ever wished for was something synonymous with a momentary spark. Whereas ‘glow’ depicts an existence more similar to “everlasting nature.” In its true sense ‘glow’ signifies “a steady radiance of light or heat” and the lyrics speak of the same when they mention the desire to “stay” for that is the actual dream. Acting as reassurance that whether the singular goal (glow) that we amount everything to is achieved or not, our dream to ‘glow’ will not fade away, we will glow, even in the face of utter gloom. The lyrics remind us that you will glow, and you shall need to remember it will be a tough ride. But to toughen up yourself in the face of all this is the part you need to put into perspective. For you are not to only seek the ‘glow’ that lead you to step up, you are here to stay and embody that ‘glow’ yourself.

This analytical piece is a subjective interpretation of the actual work (bound to have a one-dimensional perspective) and claims to reflect nothing directly or indirectly mentioned in the original lyrics.
